Immunization..
The Vermont Public Health Association recognizes that vaccine-preventable diseases represent an ongoing threat to the health of Vermonters. Immunizations are one of the most effective means of preventing infectious diseases. VtPHA supports the following in the interest of a highly immunized population:
- Third party payment for immunizations for all age groups
- Efforts to assure universal immunization of infants and children
- Development of a secure statewide immunization registry to track the administration of vaccines, provide immunization histories to health care providers, monitor adverse events, identify and provide outreach and information to under-vaccinated populations, including during disease outbreaks
- Culturally appropriate public and patient education about the importance of immunizations, their benefits, effectiveness and risks based on related infectious disease epidemiology
- Funding to adequately support immunization programs to meet the immunization needs of at-risk populations
- Research and development of safe and effective vaccines for existing, emerging, and remerging diseases
