  1. Public Health Specialist

    The Vermont Department of Health is looking for public health professionals to address public health's winnable battles. There are several open positions in the Division of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. Full listings can be found on the state of Vermont personnel website.

    One of the positions is a public health specialist to work on activities under the Community Transformation Grant including nutrition and physical activity programming. A job description is included below. Please forward to any potential candidates.

    GENERAL JOB Planning and administrative work for a variety of health department programs. Examples of programs include Tobacco Control, Injury Prevention, Asthma Prevention, Clean Indoor Air, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, Fetal Alcohol Prevention, Primary Care and others. Responsible for the development, administration, quality control, and evaluation of the assigned program. Duties involve data and policy analysis, goal setting, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, technical assistance, health education, and quality assurance in coordination with other Department, Agency of Human Services and community programs. Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher level administrator. All employees of the Agency of Human Services perform their respective functions adhering to four key practices: customer service, holistic service, strengths-based relationships and results orientation.

    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of public health nursing, nutrition or other health care specialty particularly related to the program specialty. Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of public health. Considerable knowledge of quality assurance techniques and methods of implementation. Considerable knowledge of program evaluation procedures, including goal setting, measurement criteria, and analysis of results.

    Working knowledge of educational principles and training procedures. Working knowledge of research principles and procedures. Ability to communicate with clarity and persuasion. Ability to perform job duties within the framework of the four key practices of the Agency of Human Services: customer service, holistic service, strengths-based relationships and results orientation.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Education: Bachelor's degree. Experience: Three years in a health care, public health, or human service organization INCLUDING one year at an administrative, consultative or planning level. Note: A Master's degree in Public Health, Public Administration or a health field may be substituted for one year of the general work experience.

    The Child Development Division in the VT Department for Children and Families seeks a skilled and knowledgeable leader as the Director of the Vermont Head Start Collaboration Office who will report directly to the Deputy Commissioner. The Director will facilitate collaboration among Vermont's 7 Head Start and Early Head Start grantees, the Vermont Head Start Association, and Vermont's early childhood systems, services, programs and organizations (including Building Bright Futures, Vermont's early childhood advisory council) to benefit low income children from birth to school entry and their families.
